Translation of International Pressure Ulcer Guidelines:
The European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) and National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) welcome translations of the guidelines into languages other than English. However, there are some requirements that must be followed:
- Copyright for the guidelines remains with NPUAP and EPUAP.
- It is not permitted to sell the translated guidelines or to make any financial profit from them. Remember that the guidelines are the result of 5 years of hard work by members of EPUAP and NPUAP for which they received no payment and the work was funded by NPUAP and EPUAP and their sponsors.
- Translated guidelines may not be used as part of advertising or promotional materials designed to sell pressure ulcer prevention or treatment products.
- Use of the translation is limited to educational purposes and to facilitate wider distribution of the evidence-based practice recommendations.
- We do not charge individuals/organisations for the right to translate the guidelines.
- We will not pay for any costs incurred in translating the guidelines.
- However, it is important that the translation truly captures the meaning of the guidelines and they do not become subtly changed during the translation. Once the translation has been completed, the English version and the translated version should be assessed by 4 independent healthcare professionals who are fluent in both languages and able to judge the accuracy of the translation.
Once the guidelines are translated and verified a copy of the translation must be sent to the EPUAP Office to be placed on the EPUAP website. We will add the front and back covers with the translated titles. We will also add the logo of the organisation undertaking the translation to page 2 of the guidelines beneath the copyright statements - click the thumbnail image to see an example of how this would work.
- We ask that you complete and return both pages of the following linked translation form to register your intent. It should then be signed by an authorised person and returned to the EPUAP Business Office. Once this has been verified you will be given formal permission to undertake the translation. Download the Translation Request Form.
