EUROPEAN PRESSURE ULCER ADVISORY PANEL

News from the EPUAP Business Office

The planning of the Fourth Annual Meeting in Pisa (28–30 September, 2000) continues to go well. The final announcement and programme can be seen in this issue. Abstracts have started to be submitted for the ‘Free paper’ and ‘Poster’ sessions and we would continue to encourage people to submit their work for these sessions. (Deadline: 15 June). Prizes for the best posters will be awarded at the final session.

Two site meetings have been made to Pisa, the first for the Executive to see the facilities and plan the programme and the second for our corporate members. (See photograph below.)

The Business Office continues to publish the EPUAP Prevention and Treatment guidelines and by the Pisa meeting in September, German, Swedish and Finnish editions will also be available. We hope to have the Swedish and Finnish guidelines published in the Scandanavian Wound Healing Journal. We are extremely grateful to Amuchina for sponsoring the printing of the EPUAP Guidelines in Italian. We are getting many requests from nurses and nursing homes for copies of the EPUAP guidelines as well as any other information which we have. It seems that at this time there is a hunger for information and literature on pressure ulcers.

EPUAP paid membership continues to grow – at present we have approximately 190 members. Membership of the Advisory Panel has the advantage of a discount on the registration fee at the Annual meeting as well as receiving three issues of the EPUAP Review per year. The Review under the editorship of Dr Michael Clark continues to publish stimulating articles along with excellent key references of reading material on all aspects of pressure ulcers. We are always pleased to receive articles for the Review, however contentious – so keep them flowing! At the back of the Review is a membership form. Please encourage your colleagues working with pressure ulcers to sign up as members.

We have also added to our Corporate membership since the last meeting in Amsterdam and we are pleased that two more companies are sponsoring us – URGO and B. Braun Medical. May we remind you that most of the Corporate members with web sites can be reached via the EPUAP website (http://www.epuap.org). Please let us know of ways in which you feel we can enhance the web site, particularly with regard to any interactive ideas you might have.

The Questionnaire from the Maastricht Group has been mailed to all members twice and the group will present the results at the Pisa meeting. Also meetings for the working groups and the prevalence study group have been arranged and further information of the progress of these groups will be presented at the Pisa Meeting.

Again, please feel free to contact the office with any queries you may have regarding the EPUAP and Chris and Jane will be happy to help you or put you in touch with the relevant trustees.
