Fettercairn Distillery & Fasque House - 4th May 2005

No trip to Scotland is complete without the chance to discover firsthand the fascinating secrets of the distilling process. Visitors will drive to Fettercairn Distillery in the Howe of the Mearns, a fertile farming area east of Fettercairn some 30 miles south of Aberdeen.

At Fettercairn Distillery they will meet some of the people who make "Old Fettercairn Single Malt Whisky" and hear the story of how farming and whisky production have gone hand in hand. Last but not least there will be an opportunity to enjoy a "dram" of Scotland's national drink or "water of life" as it's often referred to.

From the distillery the tour now moves to Fasque House, a C19 building set in outstanding countryside. This is a spectacular example of a Victorian "upstairs downstairs" stately home where almost nothing has been thrown away for the past 150 years. Built in 1809, the house was bought by Sir John, father of the four times UK Prime Minister William Gladstone who spent much of his early life here. This is not a museum - an unspoilt family home awaits you!

Cost - £40.00 p.h. Maximum Pax Numbers 33

Here visitors can watch the shortbread being made and most importantly, taste for themselves.

From Huntly the tour travels further north, this time to the small town of Fochabers, home to Baxter's, known throughout the world for its unique selection of soups and jams. At this fascinating complex, visitors can enjoy an audio-visual presentation, taste some of the famous products, browse in the shops and lunch in the Spey Restaurant.
